Auto Insurance Coverages
Terms of Insurance to help you make your decision:
Liability (This is standard coverage on all auto policies. It provides coverage for lawsuits and/or medical payments for others as a result of an accident)
Property Damage (I’m not a fan of looking at under 100k since there are a lot of vehicles on the road worth more than 50k.) It’s usually a difference of a couple of dollars per month (if that) for coverage that most likely won’t put you out of pocket.
Medical Payments Can be used for you, anyone in your vehicle or outside of your vehicle. Provided per person, per accident, so if 10 people are injured, it’s 5k per person who needs it.
Deductibles (There are typically two deductible options.)
Comprehensive (Everything except collision with another vehicle) Includes flood damage, hail, theft, hitting an animal or object etc.)
Collision (colliding with another vehicle or stationary property)
Uninsured Motorist Coverage: In Oklahoma, this only covers medical payments for you or anyone in your vehicle if you’re involved with either a vehicle who doesn’t have insurance, not enough insurance to cover your medical expenses, or a hit and run. It does not pay to repair or replace your vehicle (Oklahoma uses your own Collision deductible for that.) It can also be utilized as a pedestrian (if you were running, walking, jogging, rollerblading, etc. )
Rental Coverage (covers car rentals up to a limit only when your vehicle is in the shop due to an at-fault accident)
Roadside/Towing (Provides assistance for roadside help, lock-out, and towing.)
